At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Work towards Increasing the number of young people at Oakhill maintaining and improving their relationships with family and significant others through a link individual supporting them. To act as an intermediary where required.
- Improve the induction program enabling family intervention work to start from the moment young people come into custody
- Work towards Increasing the number of young people having regular domestic visits (aim 75%+)
- Support children and their families (including siblings) to be more content and less stressed due to having regular, positive family contact and have a link individual.
- Support more children into having successful resettlement back with their families/carers
- Support Oakhill to deliver against the OPFE Strategy and a ‘coordinated strategy that will optimise prisoner family engagement and in so doing so contribute to the reduction of self-harm and violence and contraband flow with an overarching aim of reducing reoffending and derailing the intergenerational transmission of crime’ (Optimising prisoner Family Engagement 2019).
- Assist in the business need for G4S to become the sustainable market leaders with the family and significant others strategy, recognised as the Gold Standard for this agenda nationally and internationally.
- Support the Centre with increased compliance with Ofsted inspections, YJB Resettlement Pathways, YCS Contractual Obligations, HMIP Expectations, HMPPS Measures 2020 and G4S internal Audit.
- Support the Centre to move away from isolated pockets of good practice, to a sophisticated, coordinated family and significant others business unit.
- Co-ordinate/facilitate group work and individual sessions with children and their families as and when required.
- Contribute to and liaise with colleagues at designated review meetings
- To promote and nurture positive parent-child relationships, looking at the interaction between family members and children. Supporting people with difficult relationships.
- To assist in the invitation of families to Achievement Ceremonies and other Centre events
- To assist in strengthening the Centre’s communication strategy with young people and their families.
- To be available where possible during family visits to answer questions or queries and to ensure families are treated fairly and with respect.
- Develop and deliver a training package to further embed and drive the family strategy more widely across the Centre and through all staff.
