**CHAIRPERSON - VISIT ISLE OF WIGHT LTD**

The Chairperson’s primary role is to ensure that the Governance Board of Visit Isle of Wight Limited is effective in its task of setting and implementing the Company’s direction and strategy.

The Board Chairperson works closely with the Managing Director of Visit Isle of Wight to collaboratively drive the organisation’s mission forward. Working behind the scenes on behalf of the Board, the Chairperson will anticipate problems and identify opportunities.

The main responsibilities & duties of the Chairperson are as follows:

- To chair General and Board meetings, including determining the order of agenda; ensuring that Board members receive accurate, timely and clear information; to ensure that all directors are involved in discussions and decision making; to direct discussions towards the emergence of a consensus view and to sum up discussions so that everyone understands what has been agreed.
- To act jointly with the Managing Director as the organisation’s leading representatives to include presenting aims and policies to the media, regional and national organisations.
- To ensure effective communication with all levy paying organisations, and where appropriate, organisations in the wider Island economy.
- To assist in identifying and requesting substantial additional funding contributions and fostering Visit Isle of Wight’s overall financial health.
- To support the Managing Director as a trusted advisor and to hold the Managing Director’s performance to account.

This is a part-time position and is remunerated for the equivalent of 4 days per month. The Chairperson is appointed by the Board and has the same legal duties as other directors.
