**Your role**:
Reporting to Picador’s Publisher, you will be a vital part of the Picador team. You will be responsible for project managing and commissioning titles from acquisition all the way through to publication. This will include negotiating with agents and international rights directors, developing ideas, costing, contracting, writing copy, editing, providing illustration briefs, scheduling and data management through Biblio.

**Your day to day responsibilities**:

- Editing own and others’ titles, with exemplary skill and attention to detail
- Commissioning titles, in line with the divisional strategy and direction of the Publisher, and project managing key titles, both own and assigned
- Suggest ideas for direct commissioning, and take titles through to acquisition and publication
- Liaise with agents/authors/in-house colleagues to enable the smoothest, most efficient and best-quality publication of each book, including championing them in-house
- Write cover briefs, suggest titles and subtitles, generate creative ideas for maximising the success of publication
- Create costings for new acquisitions in conjunction with Sales, Marketing and Production
- Specific author care for own list of writers, including regular correspondence, managing their backlist, identifying frontlist opportunities and discussing further contracts with the Publisher and seeing these through as requested
- Responsibility for liaising with Managing Editorial, Art, Design and Production about proof collations, text files, layouts, circulating cover art and other editorial tasks on own projects, ensuring Critical Path targets are met
- Create Biblio records and costings, maintain Advance Information Sheets for own titles and others as assigned
- Build relationships with other in-house departments and the wider publishing community
- Read, report and respond on submissions promptly
- Work with colleagues to ensure that titles are delivered on schedule and within budget
- Carry out any other duties that are commensurate with the scope of the role.
- A proven track record in the commissioning, acquisition, project management and development of successful books
- At least two years’ experience in commissioning and publishing
- Must be able to demonstrate complete mastery of all the processes of taking a book from pitch to publication to the highest standard
- Detailed editing, proof-reading and copywriting skills
- Experience of having worked with top-level authors, preferably within a major publishing house
- Ability to negotiate deals and contracts, as well as pitch ideas and projects effectively both internally and externally
