**Job description**:
Are you an experienced photographer and editor, keen to help us tell stories about how government policy is supporting some of the most innovative and exciting businesses in the world, improving lives, protecting jobs, and delivering a secure energy supply for future generations?

We're looking for someone with a keen eye for composition and good news sense who can capture the images that will turn top-of-the-headlines news stories into thumb-stopping content for our hundreds of thousands of social media followers.

No two days are the same - you could be joining a Minister on a tour of a cutting-edge lab and meeting scientists who are 3D bio-printing mini brains, or photographing a pub owner in Leicester who has benefited from support with their energy bills, or hopping on the train and then a boat to photograph newly installed wind turbines at sea.

**Person specification**:
You will deliver high quality photographs that that suit both government and Ministerial social media channels:

- You will take ministerial and departmental photos for events, visits and announcements.
- You will accompany Ministers as they visit businesses, research institutes and major energy projects around the country. You will take official photographs that can be shared with the media, as well as on social media. It is a requirement of the role that you can travel round the UK at short notice to join these visits. This type of travel is funded by the department.
- You will build an image library of photographs which can be used in future communications to illustrate the breadth of the department’s policy areas.
- You will work with the Communications and Ministerial teams to plan creative content and storytelling ideas, sometimes brainstorming right from the start of a project, sometimes working to very specific briefs designed by other social media experts or senior stakeholders.
- You will work on both longer-term projects, such as campaigns, and projects with very demanding deadlines and exacting stakeholders.
- You will need adaptability, as briefs and details can change at the last minute, given the fast-paced nature of government.
- You will create simple graphics incorporating photos and text that help further explain the department’s biggest stories in an accessible way.
- You will build strong relationships across the department and up-skill colleagues in the Communications and Ministerial teams in photography.

It’s a fast-paced role but it’s worth the challenge, as you will get to work on some of the most exciting projects at the heart of government - be it the future of nuclear energy, massive new private investment in UK institutions, or major scientific breakthroughs.
