Role: Family Support Worker
Responsible to: Headteacher
Based at: Knowles Primary School, Bletchley, Bucks
Hours: 37 hours per week 39 weeks per year
Grade: Starts at £25,291 pro rata (£29,439 FTE)

**Job Context**
Knowles Primary School has approximately 310 students and 40 staff. As a Family Support Worker you would provide emotional and practical help and advice to families that need long or short term support. You will need to be approachable, calm and be able to proactively engage and support our most vulnerable children and their families to improve their outcomes, develop their resilience and reduce dependency on specialist services.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop positive working relationships with all members of the school and community
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children
- Identify vulnerable families and issues that may arise
- Provide early help for families at risk
- Promote and raise attendance throughout the school
- Monitor the impact of early help on children’s attainment
- Liaise with outside agencies as necessary
- Work collaboratively with children’s social care so that all children and families access the right help
- Support the wellbeing and mental health of children through specialised provision e.g forest schools, art therapy, bereavement counselling etc.
- Support children consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
- Contribute to the strong safeguarding culture of the school as a designated safeguarding lead

(training will be provided)
- Advocate on behalf of children, young people and their families

**Working with parents and carers**
- Act as the lead point of contact for the parents/carers of children receiving additional pastoral / early help support
- Maintain regular communication with specific parents/carers and provide personalised support for families through issues as they arise
- Put interventions in place to encourage parents/carers’ involvement in supporting children’s development and progress
- Monitor the impact of early help on children’s attainment
- Keep up to date on the latest services available in the local area so you can promote and signpost parents/carers to these via a range of communication channels (e.g. social media, newsletters, in meetings, etc)
- Carry out home visits, where required
- Refer to other agencies as necessary
- Lead whole school attendance and employ strategies to improve / promote attendance within reluctant families
- Maintain confidentiality

**Working with children**
- To assess the needs of children and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support children’s learning and behaviour
- To establish productive working relationships with children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
- To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- To support children consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
- To encourage children to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils and their families in school.
- To deliver high-quality interventions with individuals and groups of children including

Kaleidoscope and Forest Schools
- To assess the impact of interventions delivered and complete impact reports
- To take part in additional training as needed

**Working with staff and other professionals**
- Work effectively within our current safeguarding team and ensure clear communication at all times
- Communicate regularly with Deputy Headteacher (lead DSL) and take guidance and direction from them
- Liaise and build relationships with external agencies and professionals, following up on actions where necessary
- Maintain regular communication with relevant staff to update them on progress of individual pupils
- Assist with carrying out early help assessments
- Develop strategic partnerships with a range of internal and external partners in the local community, to ensure effective partnership working to provide an integrated provision for children

- Take part in Safeguarding meetings which focus on ensuring appropriate support is in place for our most vulnerable students

**Record keeping**
- Maintain accurate records of interventions and relevant meetings
- Facilitate the transfer of relevant pupil information inside and outside the school
- Complete relevant paperwork required by external agencies
- Ensure all absence is being tracked and managed accordingly
- Complete early help, intervention and attendance impact reports
- Keep rigorous records and update our electronic system (CPOMS) in a timely manner
- Read all CPOMS alerts in a timely manner
