- Job description- Do you have a passion for protecting our precious water? Are you motivated by the chance to influence the way national water resources infrastructure is developed? If so, this may be the opportunity for you.
Water companies are developing a number of regionally and nationally important Strategic Resource Options (SROs) such as reservoirs and water transfers to be construction ready by 2025-2030.
Working with area and national technical specialists across the business and a range of stakeholders including RAPID, water companies and consultants, the role will involve leading technical assessment of ecological impacts of SROs.
The role will involve ensuring a consistent approach is taken to environmental monitoring and assessment, and informing development of appropriate mitigation measures and opportunities. The role will support progress of these large infrastructure projects through aspirational development and planning timeline.
Central to this role will be the ability to take a methodical, scientifically rigorous approach in understanding the significance and potential impacts of changes to ecological regimes and their consequences to Water Framework Directive classifications.
Your great communications skills and ability to build relationships quickly will make you a success in this role.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- In this technical role you will work with the National Appraisal Unit (NAU) to oversee the environmental assessments of strategic water resources supply options providing timely, consistent and robust evidence-based recommendations to RAPID and other key stakeholders.
The role is part of a dispersed team and is not location constrained. As well as being part of the NAU, the role will involve working as part of internal and external virtual teams along with RAPID.
- Experience/skills required Highly motivated self-starter/self-learner with good interpersonal skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Functional knowledge of aquatic ecology and Water Environment (WFD) Regulations assessment
- Experience of ecological monitoring and assessment techniques
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
- Adept at working both collaboratively, as part of a virtual team and independently
- Ability to handle multiple work streams and priorities
- Contact and additional information- We offer flexible working with a mix of home and office working with this role based at one of our hub offices. The role will require some travel to other Environment Agency sites, external meetings and occasional overnight stays.
