Provide the lead scientific support to the nuclear medicine and associated departments.

Provide Medical Physics Expert (MPE) support for the nuclear medicine department and the AML PET/CT dept at NGH.

Act as or work towards Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA) and Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) for the nuclear medicine department at NGH and other nuclear medicine departments through SLAs.

To lead the nuclear medicine therapy service.

To manage and develop the nuclear medicine physics service.

To ensure high clinical standards and regulatory compliance.

Applicants will be expected to have extensive experience in nuclear medicine and be currently working as a Medical Physics Expert with a strong interest in developing services.

Nuclear Medicine is part of the Imaging Directorate. We are located in a purpose built state-of-the-art department and are a forward thinking team that works closely with our clinical leads to expand and improve our services.

The department is equipped with 3 gamma cameras; a general-purpose dual headed GE D630, a SPECT/CT GE D670 and a solid state dedicated cardiac camera GE D530c. The department also has a large modern radiopharmacy that supplies isotopes and blood labelling services to several external sites.

The post holder will take responsibility for all our nuclear medicine physics services, including all diagnostic and therapy work along with non-imaging services. They will hold management responsibility for the nuclear medicine physics staff and be responsible for trainee clinical scientists on placement within the department.

To act as MPE for diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services and third party PET/CT services under the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations at Northampton General Hospital Trust
- To act as RPA and RWA for NGH, or work on portfolio with a view to achieving this
- To provide MPE, RWA and RPA support for nuclear medicine at a neighbouring hospital
- To ensure compliance and actively participate in external inspections associated with the requirements of radiation protection regulations, including Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 (and amendments), Medicines Act, and Ionising Radiations Regulations 217 and Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (as amended), with due reference to the ARSAC guidelines which established the normal limits to patient dose, and the Certification of Clinicians and employers responsible for each diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.
