**Our Maternity services include**:
A modern alongside 3 bed Birth Centre with birthing pools and 8 postnatal beds

9 bed consultant-led Labour Ward with a birthing pool

A dedicated Obstetric theatre with recovery

13 bed Maternity Higher Observation Ward

A dedicated triage, based on labour ward

A Bereavement Suite with garden

A Maternity Day Unit, an Outpatient Clinic and Midwifery-led Sonography services

17 bedded ward for inpatient antenatal and postnatal mothers and babies

6 bedded Transitional Care Ward to minimise separation of mothers and babies

Our Community Midwifery Services are Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Award Winners 2021 for Excellence in Care During a Global Pandemic

We also won the Race Matters RCM Award 2021

With a current delivery rate of 4,300 births and ambitious plans across the Local Maternity System for transforming maternity services to be aligned with the Better Births recommendations, now is an exciting time to join the team and lead it through its current period of transformation.

The Postholder will work with the Named Midwife Safeguarding in order to:
Provide specialist support and advice on issues relating to safeguarding

Provide education for all health care professionals working in maternity caring for vulnerable families

Assist the Directorate and the staff in their duty to protect vulnerable individuals from harm

Assist with the ongoing development of the safeguarding agenda within maternity services

This midwife will act as a resource for other members of the multidisciplinary team and be able to demonstrate knowledge and competence in the specialist role

The specialist midwife will take the operational midwifery lead for safeguarding

The specialist midwife must ensure that policies and guidelines relating to Safeguarding are up to date and based on latest evidence-based research

- Provide expert advice to midwives and other colleagues, to enable all staff to offer high-quality, individualised care to vulnerable groups, providing supervision and support to multi-professional staff in relation to safeguarding
- Adhere to statutory guidance for multi-agency working to help protect and promote the welfare of children as outlined in Working Together 2023
- Support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding and act up in their absence
- Ensure adherence to Local Safeguarding Children Boards Policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain collaborative inter-agency working as an essential component of all aspects of this post
- The post holder will be a Midwife practising autonomously attending women during the antenatal and post-natal periods
- The postholder will work as a member of the midwifery team providing direct midwifery care to women

Patient Care
- The post holder will maintain own clinical skill and competencies
- Ensure that at all times the interest and well-being of babies are paramount, whilst continuing to act as an advocate for their mothers
- Developing individualised plans of care in conjunction with other appropriate services to ensure the safety of the mother and newborn and the transition of care to other health professionals
- Ensure agreed actions identified within individual management plans are being undertaken
- Will lead Multi-Agency Pre Birth planning and oversea the implementation of those plans operationally in order to safeguard vulnerable individuals, other patients and staff
