Professional Responsibilities Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Code. In partnership with women/birthing people, you will support and lead your team by providing informed decision-making regarding place of birth, whether that is at home, in our midwife led birthing unit or consultant led obstetric unit, and develop mutually respectful relationships with both women/birthing people and colleagues. This ensures that all women/birthing people have access to the optimal birth environment in accordance with their choice and in line with evidence-based practice.

As a leader to support the home birth team and to be accommodating to changes to improve and support womens choices. Midwives are consequently supported and enabled to practice in the optimal environments for all elements of midwifery care for all women/birthing people (and their families) to enjoy a normal birth experience. You should be an experienced midwife, able to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in line with the continuity of carer pathway. Organisational / Management Responsibilities Demonstrate positive and supportive leadership and motivational skills in the management of staff as well as detailed knowledge of midwifery and contemporary maternity care Develop and maintain a departmental culture which promotes an open and honest approach to professional decision making and problem solving Lead specific designated projects.

Promote and maintain organisational and professional standards, ensuring that Trust and Directorate Policies and Guidelines are available, implemented and followed. Demonstrate and promote excellent interpersonal skills, written, verbal and nonverbal communication styles Influence and nature positive attitudes and behaviours within the teams and wider multidisciplinary team Ensure adequate staffing for the team and the wider community service, complete quarterly off duty for staff and identify and authorise bank shifts where appropriate and within allocated budget. Ensure staff are managed in line with current Trust HR policies and processes including appraisal Facilitate Preceptorship and Mentorship programmes within the clinical settings by collaborative working with the Practice Development midwives and the wider multi-disciplinary team including the University of Northampton Demonstrate a working knowledge and effective use of the community escalation policy, be responsive to the changes, as well as the demands of the local service. Manage the teams compliance with internal and external health care standards as reflected in the Trust priorities and Directorate objectives; be able to offer assurance through the Governance framework.

Undertake the investigation of incidents including complaints within the team and feedback to staff to ensure lessons are learnt. Lead on Infection Control / quality audits for the team and report through the Governance framework. Monitor the MCoC teams dashboard to effectively manage the teams resources. To have 24 hour responsibility for leading and coordinating the clinical, managerial and educational requirements for an integrated team of midwives and support workers.

To be competent and confident in all areas of midwifery practice and act as an expert resource in low-risk antenatal care, normal birth and postnatal care, able to advise other midwives and junior medical staff in clinical matters. Clinical Care Demonstrate a working knowledge of Safeguarding issues and promote effective use of the Trust Safeguarding policy within the team. Provide expert up to date clinical care to women including, the ability to undertake waterbirth, homebirth, cannulation, perineal suturing and parent education classes. Act as a source of expert advice and support to colleagues in their care of women and their families.

Take all possible action to minimise clinical risk to women and their babies, utilising all available resources Take action to ensure that all clinical risks and complaints are identified, reported within the clinical risk reporting framework and monitor outcomes, which include the investigation of incidents and complaints within the ward area and feedback to staff to ensure lessons are learnt. Undertake relevant clinical practices in accordance with the Scope of Professional Practice Proactively contribute to the development of care pathways and guidelines within the maternity service Keep contemporaneous records of the woman and her baby and influence and develop recordkeeping skills amongst midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team Act as an advocate for women, carers and staff to ensure their views are represented at all levels. Ensure an effective 24 hour on-call cover
