**Introduction**

You will be working in the Select Committee Team (SCT) supporting the work of a House of Commons Select Committee. Select Committees are cross-party committees of MPs who examine government policy and spending. You can find out what Select Committees are on this website. You will be part of a small team who work collaboratively to support a Committee or Committees.

**The Role**

You will work for one, or possibly two, of the House of Commons’ select committees. You can find out what Select Committees are and what they do by following the link in the previous section. Select Committees generally shadow a government department. If successful you’ll be able to express preferences about the Committee(s) you would prefer to work with, although we cannot guarantee to meet those preferences.

**Some of the responsibilities may include**:

- Write or help write policy information and reports to support the Committee
- Attend Committee meetings
- Accompany Members on visits in the UK (with other Committee staff)

**Skills and Experience**

Students can be studying any degree but must be on a recognised four-year sandwich/industrial placement course.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

- Ability to work on your own and within a team, whilst building and maintaining good working relationships with a diverse range of people.
- Understanding of the role and work of Parliament and the context in which policy is made.
- good communication skills; both written and oral.
- Ability to bring together, understand and analyse evidence.
