**About the team**
Hertfordshire County Council‘s Money Advice Unit provides advice, information and training on welfare benefits. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Welfare Benefits Adviser to join our long established Mental Health Project, providing casework, advocacy, and appeals representation to clients receiving help from Community Mental Health Teams.
**About the role**

You will need an excellent knowledge of the whole range of welfare benefits, but especially Personal Independence Payment, Work Capability Assessments and Universal Credit. You will also need proven casework, organisational and IT skills. You will join an experienced and supportive team but must be able to work independently and manage a high caseload to a very high standard.
**About you**
Essential:

- Recent experience of undertaking benefit casework including benefit checks, claim form completion, advocacy, revisions, appeals and tribunal representation for mental health clients
- Up to date knowledge of welfare benefits, particularly for people experiencing mental health crisis
- Ability to manage a large caseload and maintain detailed electronic case records
- Full driving licence or ability to travel in Hertfordshire when required

Desirable:

- Ability to establish and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) and in particular the local mental health offices and clinics
- Experience of developing and delivering training courses on welfare benefits for mental health professionals

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (for those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required).
