**Overview of role**

London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.

We have great opportunities for Chargehands to be responsible for supervising typically up to 20 staff at a local level and deputise for your immediate superior and undertake such responsibilities that may be required. You will need to be familiar with production work in REW and project work in TMU.

**Key Accountabilities**
- To supervise staff in the day-to day performance of their duties to ensure that work programmes are met.
- To supervise staff in the day-to-day performance of their duties to ensure that safety processes and standards are adhered to.
- To deputise for his/her immediate supervisor during periods of absence
- To operate Plant equipment as may be required
- To complete all paperwork and reports as required
- To ensure that the work area and all plant and equipment are maintained in a clean, tidy, and safe condition
- To take responsibility for protection of themselves and other staff when working on or about the railway
- Direct and control staff to comply with safety, quality, and productivity standards
- Understand Customer Requirement Documentation and Delivery times and specify manpower and resources required to comply
- Able to liaise with contractors, customers, and technical staff to minimise disruption to operations

**Skills**
- Ability to demonstrate full understanding of all work processes under his/her control.
- Ability to instruct/coach/counsel/brief staff on processes and methods under his/her control.
- Ability to understand and operate the Management Systems in use within the Workshops.
- Ability to comprehend LUL practices on smoking, alcohol, drugs, and attendance to duty and must comply with them.
- Ability to communicate effectively with managers, other members of staff and customers

**Knowledge and Experience**
- The jobholder should have previous experience on SAP ERP system or similar.
- Must be physically fit and reaching LT medical standards of fitness as appropriate to the job.
- Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations relating to the job and ability to execute them.
- Previous experience working within a train modification workshop environment (desirable)
