Proactively lead and manage a clinical team which provides highest levels of holistic primary care, further develop the services within a secure environment, ensuring professional, contractual and company requirements are delivered consistently.
- The post-holder is an experienced healthcare professional combined with excellent staff managerial skills who will support the Deputy Head of Healthcare (Primary Care Lead) to manage and develop the Primary Care Team to achieve a targeted and appropriate service, delivered in accordance with evidence-based practice and local policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a professional manner which is tolerant, courteous and calm in the full course of their duties, in relation to dealing with colleagues, visitors and with Prisoners. They will be able to effectively deal with demanding patients in a professional, nonreactive manner and defuse potentially volatile situations to avoid escalation.
- Demonstrate a full and proactive commitment to equal opportunities in accordance with local and national policies.
- Effectively manage poor performance and contribute to development of a culture of professionalism within the team alongside the Deputy head of Healthcare
- To Deputise for Deputy Head of Healthcare (Primary Care lead) in their absence
- Provide direct line management, leadership and support to junior colleagues.
- Attend and assist in any medical emergencies
- Attend any relevant meetings required to have Primary Care representation
- Contribute to the development of services to provide acute, primary and public healthcare within HMP Woodhill
- Plan, deliver and evaluate interventions for treatment as clinically appropriate using evidence-based models.
- Use specialist knowledge and expertise to make clinical decisions
- Work alongside the primary care team to manage and develop the healthcare response to medical emergencies within the prison
- Ensure clinics are delivered in a clinically effective, efficient & timely way.
- Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary clinical practice to provide focused and integrated care and treatment programmes/packages
- Undertake and supervise triage to determine clinical priorities and potential need to admit to the Healthcare Inpatient Facility.
- Respect patient’s individuality and maintain their privacy within the constraints of the custodial environment and ensure that the Primary Care Team uphold this principal
- Safeguard vulnerable patients in line with local and Trust safeguarding adult’s policy
- Take responsibility for support and clinical treatment or appropriate referral and/or removal of risk factors in situations where the risk of self-harm, harm to others or suicide seems evident
- Identify, develop and maintain the training needs of the primary care team to ensure the highest standard of care is provided

Complete clinical shifts where required to enable knowledge on contractual requirements of the service.

- Act as a professional lead, provide support to all members of the team and be responsible for setting the professional standards expected from team members communicating this to them and monitoring these.
- Undertake day to day clinical prioritisation and work planning, for self and that of the service as required to ensure the provision of a high-quality service.
- Represent the Healthcare Department in other forums including multi-agency groups, initiating and leading these where required ensuring that there is a high knowledge of the service.
- Be aware and comply with the relevant Code of Professional Conduct and ensure qualified staff work within their Professional Code of Conduct
