**Lecturer**: £43,414 to £51,805 per annum
**Senior Lecturer**: £53,353 to £61,823 per annum

The Role
As part of a strategy to rapidly expand our Physics programme, the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics (MSP) is looking to appoint an experimental Physicist.
We are looking for an enthusiastic academic with expertise in the area of experimental condensed matter or experimental photonics. You will be expected to establish your own area of expertise but may find synergies with our existing areas of strength in materials. The ability to contribute to impact e.g. through a potential REF impact case would be an advantage.
Newcastle University has been steadily growing its Physics academic staff since 2015 and is expected to continue over the next 5 years. You will have the opportunity to help shape the research and teaching associated with this expansion. Key Accountabilities
As part of a strategy to rapidly expand our Physics programme, the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics (MSP) is looking to appoint an experimental Physicist
Undertake independent original research in experimental Physics in condensed matter or photonics
Publish refereed articles in journals of international standing
Develop grant-funded research projects
Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers
Undertake external professional activities that contribute to the development of physics
Undertake teaching in physics
Contribute to the life and work of the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics in general and to the physics section in particular
Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School and the School Executive Board

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
**Essential for Lecturer (Grade F/G)**:
Demonstrated ability to carry out world leading research and/or translation to end users
Ability to deliver excellent teaching on specialised and service courses
Ability to contribute to the organisational and academic management of the school, including strategic planning
Oversee the monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to mentors and students as appropriate. Support with referred issues for learners on own programmes and provide guidance to colleagues managing student matters, signposting them to sources of further help if required.
**Essential For Senior Lecturer (Grade H)**:
Demonstrated ability to carry out world leading research and/or translation to end users
International standing in research with a track record of achieving grant and research contract awards, leading to journal publications and conference participation
Lead collaborative research and / or enterprise which results in high quality outputs with demonstrable impact
