General Practice Health Care Assistant

The healthcare assistant will work under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly follow specific guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in delivering prescribed programmes of patient care. Their duties will include Checking and Test appointments, such as phlebotomy and foot checks for diabetics, monitoring blood pressure, administering B12 injections, shingles and flu vaccines, and providing basic wound care. They will also conduct new patient health checks, undertake chaperoning duties, and process and manage laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses. The healthcare assistant will monitor and record vaccine/cold change storage, and restock surgical equipment and vaccines as necessary.
Their responsibilities will also include clearing and restocking consulting rooms, preparing and maintaining environments and equipment for patient care interventions, and assisting GPs during minor operations. The healthcare assistant will assist in assessing and monitoring patients' health and wellbeing, undertake specific clinical activities delegated and taught specifically in relation to named patients, and help raise awareness of health and wellbeing promotion. Moreover, they will collect and collate data on needs related to health and wellbeing.
