**Job description**:
The National Security Division (NSD) exists to mitigate current and emerging national security threats to the transport sector. We are looking for someone to contribute to the department’s approach to key threats, including on cyber and state threats.

You will work closely with partners across government, including the UK Intelligence Community to mitigate risk to the UK’s transport sector.

NSD sits within DfT's Transport Security, Resilience and Response (TSRR) Directorate. TSRR leads on national security matters, ranging from counter terrorism and cyber security to planning for and responding to natural hazards or civil contingencies.

As you will be part of a team that works on emerging threats and hazards, you will be expected to work flexibly and adapt to rapidly changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division, and Directorate. This will likely include some secretariat work on key Directorate functions, such as programme boards and senior meetings.

You will contribute to policy development and provide high quality written and verbal advice and briefing to senior decision makers and policy colleagues across DfT. You will own relationships with transport operators, liaising with them on matters of cyber security policy and compliance.

**Person specification**:
You will have:

- Experience of working in a policy environment is essential for this role.
- Have experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders and be able to build positive relationships to produce successful outcomes.
- Be flexible and proactive in your approach.
- Work collaboratively across different stakeholders and within a team.
- Have the ability to analyse information to support decision making.
- Be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing.

**Responsibilities**

Key responsibilities of the role include:

- Providing policy and regulatory support to enable the Department for Transport to successfully implement the Network and Information Security (NIS) Regulations.
- Developing and maintaining an understanding of current and emerging cyber security threats facing the UK transport sector.
- Leading on various policy and corporate activities that contribute to the Department’s work to improve the cyber security of the UK transport sector.
- Supporting the Department’s engagement with key stakeholders and delivery partners, including the Civil Aviation Authority and other regulatory bodies.
- Playing an active role in the Department’s response to cyber incidents.
- Taking a central role in the running of the directorate and supporting various corporate workstreams.
- Participating in the department’s response to security or civil contingencies events.

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
