We’re looking for a Psychological Therapist to join a new, innovative 2-year pilot service, T1DE, for patients with type 1 diabetes and disordered eating.

The T1DE service will provide integrated assessment and treatment for patients with T1DE and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists in both eating disorders and diabetes. It will pioneer innovative approaches to treatment and aim to be as accessible as possible to a group of patients who are often hard to reach.

The service is based within the Warwick Clinic for Eating Disorders and Diabetes, which was established in 2011 as the first specialist service in the country for this group of patients and forms part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Eating Disorders Service.

You will be responsible for clinical assessment, including assessment and monitoring of risk and formulation, and the provision of individual therapeutic interventions. You’ll also provide advice to other agencies around teaching and training, service audit/evaluation, and offer guidance on relevant projects.

Person Specification

To have undertaken a recognised qualification and to be appropriately regulated in one of the core mental health professions e.g. nursing, social work, psychology or occupational therapy, or substantial previous experience as an NHS psychotherapist.

Qualification in a recognised psychological therapy, to Postgraduate Diploma level or equivalent.

Well
- developed knowledge and skill in multi-disciplinary team working with complex clients.

Ability to manage and have good insight into the personal emotional impact of working with unpredictable levels of high emotional distress and psychological trauma amongst the client group being served.

Ability to maintain a calm and professional stance in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the potential threat of physical violence.

Well-developed skills in effective communication of highly technical or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and professional colleagues both within and outside of the NHS.

Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development

A developed knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological therapies in the treatment of people with eating disorders.

Capacity, skills and experience of making sound clinical judgements when normative data, information and other expert opinion is not available.

Awareness and understanding of ethical issues that arise in this area of work.

Experience of working with people with eating disorders, including specific theoretical and practical knowledge of working with this client group.

Relevant experience of working in a mental health setting within a multi-disciplinary team.

Experience of the assessment of the suitability of prospective clients for a recognised psychological therapy.

Experience of working with a wide variety of clients across the whole adult life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

Experience of the assessment, formulation and treatment of high risk clients in crisis, who experience high levels of suicidal ideation, and frequently engage in deliberate self-harm.
