Carlisle, United Kingdom North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Recovery Navigator Band 4 - 37.5 hrs per week - CIC

Alcohol excess plays a significant role in a wide array of health and social care needs. Consequently this impacts and imposes a burden on the whole health economy.

A significant and rising number of patients with alcohol related problems attend our Emergency Departments which, for NCIC, includes 81% presenting via our ambulance services. Many may subsequently be admitted. There is a high re-attendance and readmission rate and we have a higher than average alcohol related mortality.

Consequently there is a case for improvement in the provision of alcohol related services and better coordination of care together with our community providers.

The North East and North Cumbria ICS support the development of alcohol services and NCIC have made a successful bid for funding to support Alcohol Care Teams. They invite us to join with colleagues within our ICS to pledge support for the development of services to address this pressing need.

**Alcohol Care Teams (ACTs) aim is to**:

- Reduce avoidable alcohol-related hospital admissions by reducing severe health risk among dependent drinkers
- Reduce the length of stay for inpatients by improving the management of withdrawal
- Provide appropriate, timely, meaningful education and support for those attending or being admitted with alcohol-related problems
- Facilitate integrated alcohol care between secondary, primary and community care providers and provide an alternative to admission
- Provide psychosocial interventions to support dependent drinkers to sustain

abstinence following discharge
- Improve information sharing between services (e.g. secondary care, primary care and community services)
- Improve data collection and opportunities for analysis

The Recovery Navigator be supported an Alcohol Care nursing team and a Clinical Lead and will contribute to the development of Trust wide alcohol awareness and interventions. The multidisciplinary ACT will be comprised of dedicated specialist nurses working with colleagues across emergency and in patient care and will provide liaison and referral to community services.

At NCIC, we have an ambition to deliver outstanding hospital and health services to half a million people. Established on 1st October 2019, the Trust is creating a centre of excellence in providing rural and remote healthcare and provides a wide range of community and acute services throughout north Cumbria and beyond. We're responsible for delivering over 70 services across 15 main locations and we employ more than 6,500 members of staff.

Our 5 key principles demonstrate our belief in the delivery of 'safe, high quality care every time'.
- Being a clinically led organisation
- Quality and safety at the heart
- A positive patient experience every time
- A great place to work
- Managing our money well

As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.

Across the North East and North Cumbria we are working together to deliver our ambition to be the greenest region in England by 2030. There is an expectation for all staff to support this by familiarising yourself with the Trust’s sustainability initiatives such as waste and recycling, going paperless, videoconferencing, sustainable transport and others.

We encourage you to think about what you can do as an individual and within your team to contribute in to embedding carbon reduction into the everyday running of our organisation.
