**Underwriter - Home and Travel**

LV GI have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Home and Travel team. The purpose of this role is to contribute towards delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through the underwriting of relevant products in the market whilst maintaining technically excellent underwriting standards and building up relationships with both internal and external customers. You will be required to handle cases, uphold underwriting authority at all times and deliver excellent service to our customers.

The role can be based at either our Bournemouth, Birmingham or Croydon office and is on a hybrid working contract.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Adheres to Underwriting Authority, referring cases where appropriate and an awareness of the impact case and portfolio decisions have on Profit and Loss and the achievement of plan
- Delivers KPI targets across cases worked upon to deliver the high level line of business strategies
- Provides technical knowledge and insight to policy wordings ensuring these important customer documents are maintained. Completes and owns as appropriate for each line of business. Ensures up-to-date knowledge and understanding of all relevant compliance and regulatory rules and procedures
- Handles internal and external customer queries, dealing with them in an efficient, practical and professional manner, both verbally and in writing
- Provides feedback and insight about our products to assist in the development and maintenance of the product
- Liaises with all other appropriate internal parties including Sales and Distribution, Pricing and Reporting, Claims and Operations

**About you**

We are looking for somebody with underwriting experience, ideally within Home or Travel. You will also have:

- Ability to select the appropriate product for a trade/risk and apply/recommend appropriate rates and terms having recognised any increased hazards and collected sufficient information to allow a decision to be made or referral agreed
- Understanding of the skills and tools required for effective Underwriting and has the ability to use these key skills to underwrite risks profitably
- Understanding of internal and external provider processes and how this may impact on product delivery and performance
- Understanding the make-up of policy wordings and clauses with a basic understanding of non-standard covers available
- Awareness of relevant legislation by Line of Business
- Full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Awareness of client/broker classification plus competitors, comparable products and pricing
- Proven ability to understand key underwriting concepts and principles
- Proven experience of negotiation and influencing skills
- Understanding of the key elements of regulation and legislation that exist within the general insurance market place

Our office with flex model means that you will have the opportunity to work from home as well as the office. As a hybrid worker you will be in the office between 2 and 16 days per month depending on individual and business need.
