**The Post**
Scotland’s International Environment Centre is looking to appoint a highly motivated, forward-looking Technician to join a multidisciplinary team working on the Forth Environmental Resilience Array: a programme pioneering the development of a world-leading digital environmental observatory for the Forth Valley Region in Scotland in collaboration with a range of regional and national partners and stakeholders.

You will join a dynamic, innovative team of scientists and technical specialists focussed on delivering a programme that will help deliver on Scotland’s net zero and broader environment targets.

**Description of Duties**
- Work as part of a small team undertaking work to install sensors and other monitoring infrastructure in the field
- Perform regular inspections and undertake routine maintenance work on sensors and related infrastructure in the field, working independently or as part of a team as appropriate
- Liaise with land-owners and other stakeholders to obtain permission to undertake fieldwork and install and maintain instrumentation
- Plan, organise and undertake fieldwork to collect soil, water or vegetation samples and store, distribute, or analyse these as required
- Perform work in the field and/or laboratory to ensure sensors are appropriately calibrated and meet required tolerances
- Support other team members on the processing, analysis and visualisation of environmental datasets
- Contribute to publications, reports, presentations and disseminate results and outcomes using other appropriate media as required

**Essential Criteria**
- Previous experience undertaking fieldwork on land and/or water for the collection of environmental data
- Previous experience with the collection of water, soil or vegetation samples and familiarity with standard sampling methodologies and protocols
- Knowledge of local, regional and global environmental issues
- Understanding of the pressures affecting air, water and soil quality in the UK and elsewhere
- Strong data analysis and management skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar products
- The ability to work independently or as part of a small team
- Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
- Excellent time management skills including ability to prioritise workload
- Full UK driving licence

**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience with the use of sensors for monitoring air, water or soil quality
- Familiarity setting up data loggers and remote telemetry devices. Background or experience in electronics and/or sensor engineering
- Experience working with microcontrollers and microcomputers (e.g., Raspberry-Pi, Arduino) for environmental monitoring projects
- Skills in computer programming in one or more languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript or R)
- Experience with the analysis of complex datasets and the creation of scientific visualisations using R or Python
- Experience with GIS for the management and analysis of spatial data
- Experience contributing to the writing of risk assessments for fieldwork activities, technical manuals, and standard operating procedures
