**Job Purpose**

The purpose of the post is to act as a Health, Safety and Fire Consultant to HSBC and fully support the HSBC UK Health, Safety and Fire Manager with respect to Health, Safety & Fire requirements, and operational delivery. This is to meet legal obligations and to minimise the risk of injury, property damage and business interruption that may arise from accidents, incidents, fires or enforcing authority action.

**Key responsibilities**:

- The jobholder will advise on HS&F issues at buildings through a combination of site visits, risk assessments, written and verbal communications. This involves regular interaction with Business management, Regional Offices, HSBC Corporate Real Estate, and contractors working within buildings.
- The jobholder investigates serious accidents, incidents, or fires to minimise the risk of reoccurrence and liaises with enforcing authorities in situations that could result in enforcement action against HSBC.
- The jobholder is responsible for monitoring buildings and operations to discuss HS&F matters with management and to assess HS&F risks to staff, the public, contractors and others. Where such risks are identified, reports are submitted to the HSBC Head of Health and Safety UK, the Business, Divisional Management Centres and Corporate Real Estate as appropriate, recommending action to reduce the risk to an acceptable and legally compliant level.
- The jobholder advises on complex or technical queries relating to all HS&F issues including risk assessments, fire precautions, legal compliance, management policy and procedures, safe working methods and building regulations.
- The UK HSF Manager provides the jobholder with adequate authority to ensure policies, procedures etc. are implemented.
- The jobholder is responsible for collating information for HS&F related improvement work in the buildings within his/her area of responsibility and for monitoring implementation.
- Acting as the Radiation Protection Supervisor for HSBC, First Direct & M & S Bank on behalf of HSBC.
- The jobholder has responsibility for advising Management within Corporate Real Estate, Regional Management Centres HSBC Branches and Office buildings for which they are responsible for on all aspects of HS&F standards and providing additional instruction and training as required.
- To work with the Project Co-ordinator in planning and delivering the service.
- To act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas of competence.

**Job Activities**
- The following are examples of the activities and tasks involved in the job - they are not an exhaustive list and will be supplemented with other activities and tasks as required to meet the responsibilities of the role.
- Provision of Competent Operational HS&F resource to complement HSBC HSF Support Manager.
- To ensure that HS&F legal requirements are monitored interpreted, assessed, and implemented within HSBC manuals (BIM & FIM) and guidance in a clear and understandable manner. Thereafter, to ensure that the HSBC Business is aware of these requirements and how to implement the measures locally.
- Undertake HSBC HSF Policy Production and review to reflect ‘risk’.
- Production of Management Information / Advice on HSF Strategy /Delivery of agreed annual HSF Plans.
- To explain technical solutions, risk assessment processes and rationale to all levels within HSBC, including Senior Management.
- To ensure that Branch / Office Audits (BIAS) are undertaken in geographical area of responsibility on a cyclical basis encompassing:

- General Adherence to HSBC Policy requirements (WIC)
- Working at Height
- Asbestos
- X-Ray
- Radon
- Statutory compliance
- General house keeping
- FMSP activity
- FMSP Contractor activity
- Fire Risk Assessments
- Production of Management Action Plan on completion.
- To liaise with the Radiation Protection Adviser, ensure compliance with the arrangements set out in the Local Rules, complete radon monitoring, carry out radon and x-ray audits and ensure HSBC staff and their contractors have read, understood, and will comply with the information provided in the Radon Management Manuals and X-ray Management Manuals.
- Assurance on outsourced FMSP activity throughout the HSBC UK, First Direct & M & S Bank networks.
- Provision of HS&F Advice and support to the UK HSBC Network / CRE / Internal Stakeholders / Branch and Office network as well as where the outsourced FMSP do not have FM responsibilities (i.e. GDC / M&S Money / First Direct)
- Advising on HSBC Network Risk Assessment process and procedures.
- HSBC Asbestos Survey programme oversight and Assurance.
- Assurance and reporting on network DDA / Counterline Assessments / Fire / Asbestos / Water Hygiene.
- Undertake investigations and reporting of any HSBC UK, First Direct or M & S Bank accident / Incident in geographical area of responsibility.
- Enforcing Authority Liaison (HSE / LA / FPO / Street enforcement officers) in area of responsibility.
