**Job Outline - P/T Support worker Companion, Fixed Term 1 Year**

**support worker companion / Driver **to a young lady in the Irvine Area

Between min 3 to max 6hrs per week - days to be discussed at interview

**Salary**

Living wage rate - £13.15 per hour

**Job Purpose**

To work closely and flexibly with a young person who has a mild Learning Disability to ensure she is appropriately supported to participate in a full range of opportunities in her life and to continue to develop and follow her hobbies and interests.

**Employer**

You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**

You will be responsible for supporting the young lady to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by her family.

Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the family about the particular activities the young lady likes. You are expected to support her choices.

You will be required to act as a companion to her, as well as fulfilling a guidance and supervisory role.

To take part and actively encourage her to get involved in a variety of different activities that she enjoys, such as going to cinema / going to the Gym / shopping / bingo / swimming

**Training**

No particular training required, mainly a common sense approach

**Person Specification**

Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.

An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.

Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.

Excellent and effective communication skills.

Excellent listening skills.

Good organisational skills.

Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution.

Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.

Be computer literate with ability to use standard software packages and search engines.

Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.

Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.

Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life.

**Personal Qualities**

The young person is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests, **she gets on better and feels more comfortable around those of her own peer group age 20s to 30s.**

She is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth and sensible.

Flexible and reliable

**Must be comfortable around dogs, cats**

You must have a full clean UK driving licence with business use on your Ins

You must have a good sense of humour.

You will be paid a mileage allowance for use of your car whilst taking the young lady out - again adhering to current

You will be required to supply if you are successful - Two up to date Reference contacts are required one of which must be from a present or previous employer. In addition, a new or updated PVG enhanced disclosure will be required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer).

Probationary Period attached is 6 months to this post. During this period, either party can end the employment by giving the other one weeks’ notice.
