The role

The aim of the Student Wellbeing Service is to ensure that health and wellbeing are integral to everyday life for Aberystwyth students. Our focus is on supporting students to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and develop self-reliance. The Wellbeing Service does not duplicate or replace statutory provision but facilitates support pathways to other community services when necessary.

Appointments are normally made within 4 - 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you’ll do

The postholder will provide one to one, brief support direct to students with diagnosed or emerging mental health issues, emotional and psychological difficulties, as well as developing and delivering psycho
- educative workshops to groups of students and staff whilst playing a key role in supporting staff in their interactions with students.
- Providing short term support to students, who may/may not be registered with the Service, following a mental health crisis/unexpected event, such as a sudden student death.
- Providing ongoing mental health mentoring one to one sessions to DSA funded students.
- Managing a caseload of students with ongoing academic related issues, including those who may be eligible for mental health mentoring.
- Participating in a daily duty rota and the daily triage of Student Wellbeing Registration Forms and deciding on appropriate services/action to be taken.
- Assessing and managing complex presentations, including assessing psychological distress and level of risk (e.g. risk of suicide) and responding to serious incidents.
- Making direct referrals to the Crisis Service.
- Designing and delivering psycho-educational workshops to students and staff on commonly occurring themes e.g. low mood, healthy relationships, managing change.

**For Staff/Others**
- Acting as a first point of contact/advice for staff/students/others who may be concerned about the wellbeing of students, where necessary referring onwards for support from the Student Wellbeing Service or to statutory or voluntary services as appropriate.
- Designing and delivering workshops to staff to support them in their interactions with students who have mental health/wellbeing issues e.g. managing boundaries, supporting students in crisis.
- Attending University Open Days/Visit Days as required providing information to prospective students and their families/supporters on the support available from the Service.

**Professional Development**
- Attending and contributing to Service team meetings/Service development.
- Attending clinical supervision meetings with the Student Wellbeing Service Manager and with an agreed external supervisor.
- Working within the guidelines for service delivery as detailed by the Student Wellbeing Service Manager and/or Head of Department.
- Undertaking sufficient and appropriate CPD to maintain professional registration. This may be via training supported by the University or at the post holder’s own expense.
- Attending training external to the university when opportunities arise to meet Student Wellbeing Service objectives.

**Administration**
- Managing your electronic appointment diary.
- Keeping accurate electronic or written records sufficient to monitor referrals, client numbers, and outcomes of the work undertaken for accountability, financial and statistical analysis purposes.
- Keeping electronic case notes of sessions to safe, professional and ethical standards as part of reflective practice and self-supervision and in compliance with GDPR.

**Miscellaneous**
- Proactive liaison with external agencies and services as well as other departments within the University.
- Occasionally manage small projects in respect of student wellbeing e.g. undertaking or analysing Service user surveys or assisting with the induction of new staff.
- Responding flexibly to the needs of the Service and its users, including where necessary working outside of normal working hours in exceptional and limited circumstances.
- To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
