**Job Purpose**
Reporting to the Director of Business Change and working in collaboration with other Heads of Service within the Transformation Team, and key stakeholders across the University, The Head of Service Design will shape, develop, and lead the portfolio of service design projects that will transform our staff and student experience through a design-led approach to design and change delivery.

Utilising their wealth of design tools and techniques to transform our internal services and business delivery. They will promote innovation, efficiency, and customer focus across the University's capabilities. The post holder will ensure business change is delivered in a connected and consistent way across the organisation.

Working along with the Director of Technology Strategy and the Architecture function the Head of Business and Service Design will collaborate and provide an understanding of the current business architecture, capabilities and model and work together to shape the programme, initiatives and investment needed to deliver change needed across the University.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Lead the development and delivery of Business & Service Design projects from inception to completion, which supports the University's ambitious plans for change and delivery of service excellence.
2. Lead on solutions design where relevant across the Transformation programme, providing service design, user research and business model design expertise to support the delivery of change.
3. Lead cross-functional teams and provide an iterative approach to Business & Service Design, led through insight and leading to implementable change and service improvement for the institution.
4. Visualise, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts relating to service design and delivery, making decisions based on available information and research evidence. Maintain the current state view of the business model and capabilities.
5. Encourage best practices and innovation by benchmarking and understanding current trends and new developments in Business & Service Design. Advise on the adoption and development of new and emerging ways of working, tools, and technologies.
7. Support the promotion and adoption of innovative working practices, organisational reform and cultural change amongst key stakeholders and the wider University community.
8. Embed relevant service design capacity and capability across Transformation projects, delivered through the University Change Framework. Providing design and delivery expertise and evidence of impact and effectiveness through well-defined measures and outcomes.
9. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders to ensure buy-in, modelling a collaborative and influencing culture and style of working across the organisation, and building strategic networks of change leaders and champions.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the necessary strategic competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and leadership experience in a similar or number of different specialist roles.
Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional leadership experience in strategically important specialist areas.
A2 Highly developed knowledge and understanding of business/service design and change management methodologies.
A3 Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Project Management methodologies.

**Desirable**:
B1 Knowledge of Business Architecture methodologies.
B2 Strong understanding of Higher Education organisations, purpose, and infrastructure.
