**Job summary**:
This an exciting time to work for the Department for International Trade, as the UK continues to develop its trade policy, and negotiate trade deals with countries around the world.

The Director's Private Secretary leads the office of the Director for UK-US Negotiations; Services, Investment and Digital Trade Policy, advising the Director on the full breadth of the Directorate's work and coordinating the engagement with Ministers, other senior officials and senior private sector stakeholders. The Private Secretary needs to work rapidly, covering a wide range of highly sensitive decisions as trade negotiations and Whitehall engagement operate at a fast pace. This requires a broad strategic understanding of the UK’s overall trade policy, excellent senior and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work at pace to coordinate a large number of stakeholders to achieve these aims effectively.

**Job description**:

- Leading the delivery of the Director’s priorities. This includes supporting the Director to deliver policy priorities across the US, Services, Investment and Digital Trade portfolio, providing advice and briefing on key issues accordingly (including on their leadership of the directorate).
- Developing and managing relationships with a wide variety of teams within DIT (including negotiation teams) to ensure that work is aligned with the Director’s priorities.
- Close collaborative working with policy leads, negotiating teams, legal advisers and private offices across DIT.
- Supporting the senior leadership team in their corporate responsibilities.
- Leading a high performing, inclusive, and resilient team to provide executive support to senior leadership. The role has line management responsibility for three executive assistants, and wider leadership responsibilities across the Directorate.
- Corporate responsibilities, including but not limited to: people data and finance reporting, and leading recruitment on behalf of the Director.

**Hybrid working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
