Aberdeen, United Kingdom VSA Full time

VSA have an exciting opportunity available to join our Care at Home team as a Support Worker working in the Northfield area supporting a young man on a 1:1 basis with autism, ADHD & an associated learning disability to access the local community and identify suitable services.

**A bit about me**

I am 21 years old, and currently live at home with my mum in Northfield.

I require support to access the community, as I would be unable to keep safe out with my home environment if not supported. I would like my support workers to help me add more structure and routine to my week, as having nothing to do can have a negative impact on my emotional wellbeing. When upset I can become verbally abusive.

I am at risk of social isolation, so the purpose of accessing day services is not just to keep me busy, but also to make new friends and develop new relationships. By mixing with people more regularly, I may learn to behave more appropriately around others - as my current understanding of what is appropriate and what is not is very limited.

I enjoy playing videogames, and I currently own a Play Station VR, PSP and Nintendo Switch. I would like it if we could speak about videogames together.

I also like to talk about animals, especially cats, dogs, and sheep - I enjoy visiting the Pets Corner at Hazlehead Park.

I can get fixated on previous negative experiences, and when that happens, I will start walking back and forth and become visibly agitated. I would like my support worker to try and shift the focus of the conversation onto something else, or distract me with an activity, to help me calm down.

During my support, I would like to start cooking/baking - I can make a nice sausage roll. This would involve going shopping for the ingredients - my favourite shops are Farmfoods, Iceland, Morrisons & Asda.

I would also like to go swimming and visit some parks.

My ideal support worker would be calm, patient, have similar interests to me and be able to firm with me when needed.

**Hours: 12 hours per week**

**Rota: Monday 1100-1400, Wednesday 1100-1400 & Friday 1100-1700.**

**Location: Northfield area, Aberdeen**

**Rate of Payr: £11.10 per hour**
***
**We offer our Support/Care Workers fantastic benefits including**:

- Fuel Allowance
- Company pension
- Employee assistance programme
- Generous annual leave
- Refer a friend programme-Receive £200 when you introduce a family member or friend to VSA,
