PRIME OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

To contribute to the success of the organisation by:
To assess the emotional, physical, intellectual and cultural needs of both child and carer particularly from the community, in partnership with them and to respond to families in crisis and children in need, to offer linguistically and culturally sensitive support, advice and guidance appropriate to the situation and in the most appropriate setting, eg: Family/carer's/ child's home, Family Centre, Resource centre, Constituency Office, Residential Unit, Community Setting.

To develop and deliver a preventative service and where appropriate to rehabilitate, maintain and improve the quality of care provided both inside and outside the family group.

To further the provision of the Department's services to children and families as required by relevant legislation.

**SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**

No direct supervisory duties, but may offer guidance and support to trainees, students and volunteers and will assist in the induction of new starters.

Will co-work with other Professional Staff and/or other Community Resource Worker as appropriate to the caseload.

**SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE**

At Level One, postholders will be expected to receive close supervision and guidance, however should be able to demonstrate, before progression to Level Two, an ability to work on their own initiative, without direct supervision for much of the time, within the guidelines and policies laid down by the Unit and Department, which will include Health and Safety at Work, Equal Opportunities and training. Postholders will be expected to attend supervision sessions, team meetings and any appropriate training arranged on their behalf.

**RANGE OF DECISION MAKING**:
To act in accordance with the agreed priorities, policies and guidelines of the Children's Services Division and the Department.

Decisions relating to the operation of individual and group programmes to meet the needs of children/young people and their carers, responding to crisis situations as laid down by authority guidelines and unit priorities.

With appropriate supervision will make decisions, except those decisions, which affect the liberty or legal status of service users, regarding the needs of Children & Families.

With appropriate supervision will make recommendations regarding the needs of children and families.

Accountable for personal action in joint work with colleagues.

Responsible for the management of own time on tasks associated with the job.

**RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSETS, MATERIALS ETC**:
Access to confidential information, case records & files.

Under the Health & Safety at Work Act, the postholder has a particular duty of care for children, carers and other members of staff as well as oneself and must always be considerate of this when carrying out any duty or responsibility.

Within Authority and Department guidelines, access to petty cash and/or cash advance, grant payments and personal belongings.

Will follow authority guidelines in relation to open access to files.

Responsible for resources and equipment used.

The postholder will have access to keys for a number of buildings and to accept responsibility for site security and fire systems.

Expected to work with technology provided, following appropriate training and procedures.

**WORKING CONDITIONS - ALL POSTHOLDERS**

Will be appointed to the staff of the Division and may be required to work from any base or site.

**ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS LEVELS 2 AND 3**

The post will of necessity require some out of hours and unsocial working. The unsocial hours element of this post are reflected in the grade and no additional payment will be made.

It will not be a normal expectation that the above two activities will be undertaken in isolation.

**RANGE OF DUTIES**:
To develop awareness of the needs of children/young people from the community, contribute to their emotional, psychological and physical needs, and where appropriate enable individuals to understand, accept and change their personal situation.

To develop, maintain and support, individually or in conjunction with others, a wide range of services, on either a group or personalised basis to meet the needs of children/young people and/or their families/carers, particularly from the Asian community using the most appropriate equipment to enable them to articulate their own and other needs and to assist them in responding to these needs appropriately.

To assist with the process of achieving the best possible outcome for the child, families and carers, will establish appropriate links and communication channels with other agencies, Housing, Benefits, Education, Career Guidance, Probation Service, Health Visitors and other professional staff, both inside and outside the Authority, Carers, Foster Carers, prospective adopters and anyone else appropriate to the needs either ordin
