An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and passionate individual to work within the Trusts Safeguarding and Vulnerability Team. The Named Professional MCA/DoLS will have both operational and strategic responsibilities to ensure the organisation meets its Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards responsibilities with regards to Young people (aged 16 and 17) and Adults, informing the Trust of any legislative changes, implementing strategies, protocols, pathways and action plans to strengthen the trusts management of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards issues. There will be a focus on robust risk management systems to ensure safe, efficient, effective and timely management of the Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards agenda. The role will involve seeking assurances from and holding to account services regarding their Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards responsibilities. The post holder will be responsible for the roll out of the new Liberty Protection Safeguards process.

The post holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 with skills in leadership and communication with staff at all levels and competencies to influence the pathways of care in the Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards/Liberty Protection Safeguards arena.

They will initiate and add to research evidence in the field of Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards to ensure that evidence based practice is inherent in all aspects of care. They will manage the recruitment of any additional staff required and provide line management to the MCA/LPS specialist nurse. This will include facilitating the development of the staff in the MCA/LPS team, improving skills and competencies to develop the individual and the team.

This is an exciting time to be involved in the world of the MCA with the proposed changes to the MCA Code of Practice being imminent and the proposed introduction of Liberty Protection Safeguards this will provide opportunities as well as challenges for the successful applicant.
