We are seeking a collaborative and solutions-focused Research Manager to join the Parasites and Microbes (PaM) Programme within the Wellcome Sanger Institute on a full time, permanent basis.

**About the role**:
The role focuses on the coordination and project management of programme's grant portfolio. You will provide comprehensive operational and administrative support to the Head of Programme, Faculty, associate, honorary and international faculty members of the programme in the management of their areas of responsibility so they are able to deliver their programmes goals.

You will be responsible for monitoring and communicating our financial budgets, as well coordinating and delivering upon annual reporting requirements. You will work collaboratively with our internal and external stakeholders to ensure we are meeting our contractual obligations as determined by our funding parties.

You will provide effective coordination and collaboration with the Institute's main business areas, Scientific Operations and Management Operations to facilitate strong communications, efficient operations and compliance with policies to ensure that corporate administrative responsibilities of the programme faculty are fulfilled.

You will carefully project manage the financial and administrative requirements of some of the more complex grants that are within the programme's portfolio.

You will work with the Grants and Change Lead and the wider programme to develop and implement process improvements within the Research Management function.

**About you**:
You will have previous experience of working within a scientific setting or possess a scientific qualification. You will need knowledge and understanding of third party scientific funding, with the ability to produce and report on financial budgets within software such as Excel.

You will be a confident communicator, comfortable with negotiating the competing priorities of multiple stakeholders. You will be organised with good attention to detail. It will be expected that you are able to balance your workload accordingly to the requirements of the programme.

You will be collaborative and team player, that is able to work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining strong working relationships.

**About us**:
PaM uses genomic approaches to explore questions of basic science relating to the evolution and spread of bacterial pathogens, and to understand how genotypes and phenotypes relate to each other in both pathogens and hosts.

Your role would be based within the Operations Team. As a unit, our focus is to maximise and support the scientific aims of the programme. We are currently reviewing our processes to make improvements. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team and make an impactful difference to the science that is delivered. We will work with you to provide opportunities for growth and development within the role.

**Essential technical skills**:

- Previous scientific experience or qualification
- Knowledge of scientific third party funding
- Experience of producing, managing and reporting on budgets
- Excellent IT skills, including excel
- Project management experience desirable
