Band 8a Children's Clinical Site Practitioner
6 months ago
Our children’s nursing team is expanding, and is led by our Divisional Director of Nursing for Children and Young People, a Trust wide role to ensure children and young people receive high quality care wherever they access services across our organisation. When you come here you’ll always be learning; developing your knowledge and ensuring your skills are kept fully up to date. You will be supported by Practice Development nurses, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Quality managers, together with a friendly multidisciplinary team and a corporate training and development team. We have in house leadership programmes and work with a range of universities to ensure you can progress through academic pathways in order to support your career development.
The children’s site practitioner (CSP) team plays a major part in the development and expansion of our children’s services. As senior children’s nurses, they provide clinical expertise and support, together with leadership to children’s clinical areas (including inpatients, outpatients, NICU and children’s ED) on a shift by shift basis. Out of hours they work as part of the children’s hospital at night clinical team to ensure a timely and appropriate response to children and young people’s needs, in liaison with the overall hospital at night Trust team.
The post holder will, as a senior children’s nurse, provide clinical expertise and support, together with leadership to Children’s clinical areas (including inpatients, outpatients, NICU and children’s ED) on a shift by shift basis. Out of hours they will work as part of the children’s hospital at night clinical team to ensure a timely and appropriate response to children and young people’s needs, in liaison with the overall hospital at night Trust team.
The post holder will work with the Trust Site Team in ensuring Trust policies and protocols relating to children and young people are adhered to, ensuring high standards of clinical care, decision making, and patient flow through the organisation are maintained, identifying shortfalls in resources and intervening as necessary to find effective solutions.
The CSP will deliver expert advice and will practise expanded clinical skills within the Children’s department and to support children’s ED, working collaboratively with the Site Team. The post holder will assist the Trust Site Team to ensure the Trust meets government standards and targets in relation to bed management for children and will balance competing demands between process and clinical support.
Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
We know it takes happy, motivated staff to produce patient satisfaction, so we’re investing in making our hospitals great places to work. It’s about living our values: Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment - the PRIDE at the heart of all we do.
The CSP’s work with the Trust Site Team in ensuring Trust policies and protocols relating to children and young people are adhered to, ensuring high standards of clinical care, decision making, and patient flow through the organisation are maintained, identifying shortfalls in resources and intervening as necessary to find effective solutions.
