DfE’s Education Engagement and Serious Violence Unit are looking for an organised, committed and self-motivated Higher Executive Officer (HEO) to join a delivery team who are supporting schools and their partners to deliver innovative, place-based programmes to tackle serious violence across the country. The role is a permanent position in the Department for Education.

The role is working as part of a wider delivery team who are responsible for delivering two place-based programmes in serious violence hotspots through to March 2025. These programmes (totalling more than £50m over 3 years) are working through mainstream and Alternative Provision schools to protect young people at risk of disengaging from education and being drawn into serious violence. The delivery team are responsible for engaging directly with local partners (schools and local authorities in particular) to ensure the Taskforces deliver effectively.

The first programme is the Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforces (APST) programme. This programme involves embedding taskforces made up of specialist key workers (e.g., mental health practitioners, youth workers, post-16 transition coaches etc) full time in Alternative Provision (AP) schools in serious violence hotspots.

The second programme is Support-Attend-Fulfil-Exceed (SAFE) Taskforces. SAFE is a £30m 3-year programme aimed at building local partnerships and delivering interventions (such as mentoring or social skills training) to support those vulnerable to serious violence in ten serious violence hotspots.

**Job description**:
The post holder will be:

- Supporting the regional delivery lead for a number of APST and SAFE areas on all aspects of the programme (including travelling to local areas and note taking), answering queries and managing communication channels between the central programme and local delivery partners.
- Helping ensure both programmes run smoothly, keeping a grip on logistics and carrying out organisational tasks efficiently including helping to organise events.
- Implementing and maintaining high quality systems to enable effective planning, monitoring and scheduling, including maintaining accurate project records using trackers and spreadsheets.
- Supporting the regional delivery leads within the programmes to collect termly metrics and reporting to the central Programme Management Office to track progress of delivery.
- Engaging directly with APST and SAFE Taskforces answering queries, highlighting programme information and providing support to build communities of practice of specialists to share best practice.

**Essential criteria**:

- Project delivery and management - you will have excellent organisational skills with experience of supporting the delivery of projects or programmes, you can understand the wider context and develop potential solutions which will work on the ground.
- Data management - you will have good experience of data handling with a solid ability to enter, manage and report on data in timely and accurate way.
- Stakeholder engagement - you will be able to work constructively with a range of partners and be able communicate effectively, having strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player - you are an excellent team player but can work just as well independently and use initiative - you will be able to demonstrate how you balance competing priorities while being able to support your colleague's

**Desirable criteria**:

- Previous experience of working directly with schools and/or local authorities.
- Previous experience of vulnerable children’s issues.

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

The role will require travel across the APST and SAFE locations in England.
