Mental Health

**Location: Berwickshire**
**Salary: £20,608 - £21,335 pro rata**
If you’re looking for a rewarding career and to work within an inspirational team that really does make a difference, this is your opportunity to join our Borders Services team.
As a Mental Health & Wellbeing Worker, you’ll make a difference to people’s lives every day. Mental Health & Wellbeing Workers work in small collaborative teams to provide people with recovery focused support to enhance their mental wellbeing. In line with Penumbra’s values, Mental Health & Wellbeing Workers assist people who use the service to work towards their individual outcomes and identified goals, as detailed in their personal plan.
**Background to BeWell Project**
Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) has 1,865 tenancies across Berwickshire and is the largest RSL in this rural county. BHA is committed to creating thriving communities and an extensive track record of supporting our tenants through community innovation.
BHA is seeing growing evidence of increasing mental health conditions and reducing levels of wellbeing across our tenant population. Declining levels of mental health is a key feature of tenancy breakdown and disengagement by tenants, leading to increased rent arrears, evictions and resulting voids.
BHA services, including Financial Inclusion, Housing and Customer Accounts are seeing growing evidence of increasing mental health conditions and reducing levels of wellbeing are impacting on some of our tenants. Whilst we are unable to fully quantify, mental health is a consistent feature of tenancy breakdown and disengagement by tenants, leading to increased rent arrears, evictions and resulting voids. This project will help generate better evidence in this area to both inform BHA of what more can be done and help make the case for increased mental health provision with our community and statutory partners across Berwickshire.
**Project definition**
BHA believes that investment in early intervention and increased support will prevent tenancy breakdown and better respond to levels of languishing mental health for tenants. Consequently, we are commissioning a tenancy support and wellbeing project that will provide our tenants with direct and immediate support that will promote independent living whilst addressing key mental health factors that risk tenancy sustainment. Interventions will include one-to-one, couple and family sessions tailored to each circumstance and will be measured by improved levels of wellbeing, reductions in mental health conditions and increased engagement with BHA Housing teams. BHA is particularly keen to see the project assertively follow through with those tenants (including young people) who are hard to engage and tend to fall off the radar, only to reach a point of crisis later on.
