We are looking for an easy going, calm, confidant Support Worker to work with a client who has autism, OCD & epilepsy. Client lives in his own flat and requires 24/7 care and support to live an independent and fulfilled life.

**_What’s important to client:_**
- To learn & know & do the Routines that client needs people to do with him to help him feel safe and in control. This then allows him to move around his flat and onto his next activity.
- Know that client is sensitive to sound - be able to be quiet around him at times.
- Know that client loves listening to music - all kinds
- Know that client doesn’t always like direct conversation, instead he prefers chat & information written on paper or using his iPad.
- Always include client, even if you are talking to someone else about him. Know that he understands everything that is said, even when he is not responding in an obvious way
- Respecting client’s space in his flat and the time it takes him to do things
- Have written conversations/communicate with client with patience & persistence.
- Use Proloquo2go communication app on the iPad with client (training given)
- Spending time with his family and with friends
- Being creative inside the flat and outside gardening
- Client participates in activities through observing or joining in.
- Being active at least two or more days a week - going for walks in the countryside, what-ever the weather
- Being with people who are able to be still and calm with client’s behaviour that can challenge and can be unpredictable at times & around seizures
- Looking at Facebook on his iPad and liking/sending messages to family and friends posts/walls. Listening to different talks on his iPad, watching videos.

**_How best to support client:_**
- Make home cooked healthy meals and snacks from a menu plan
- Use visual timetables that are updated regularly so client can see what is happening now and next
- Help client with his personal washing and teeth brushing.
- Help people around client to know and understand how to respond to his communication
- Let client have time on his own and for staff to listen out to check he is ok
- Plan well with client and support him to do what is important to him and review any changes with parents
- Ask client's parents if you are unsure about anything.

**About You**

To be considered as a Support Worker, you will need:

- a caring, supportive and positive attitude;
- good communication skills
- patience, discretion and a high level of professionalism;
- mediation and negotiation skills;
- emergency response skills;
- **An SVQ Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care, or the willingness to achieve this.**:

- **We would prefer at least a year's worth of experience working in the care sector, though it is not essential.**
- **Full clean Driving Licence preferred but not essential.**
- **Attending team meetings and training courses with colleagues.**
