Patient Transport Controller

Plan and organise patient journeys for the PTS and Volunteer Hospital Car Service (HCS) drivers.
The post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility, but their day-to-day work has a direct influence on the PTS budget of in excess of £1,200.00.
The controller will receive and administer around 500,000 enquiries and bookings per annum which will be dealt with courteously and to very exacting standards of accuracy. Consequences of error can be serious and far-reaching.
Participate in a rota system covering any 7.5 hour shift required by the Management between 0730 and 2200 seven days a week.

Plan patient/vehicle journeys both in advance and in response to third party sudden involvement.
Give verbal directions to PTS staff and HCS drivers, either in person, by telephone or satellite navigation link.
Ability to plan manually, or by computer, in excess of 300 patient journeys per shift.
Continually re-arranging and adapting PTS and HCS schedules due to sudden and unexpected third-party involvement, e.g. patient appointment cancellations, ward discharges/transfers because of bed crises etc.
Have a sound knowledge of the local topography and surrounding area, as well as a good knowledge of the national road infrastructure.
Adapt to the changing needs of the service.
Always adhere to PTS Standard Operating Procedures and other relevant Policies and Procedures as issued by the Trust and department.
To assist in achieving an efficient and effective Patient Transport Service in order to meet the contractual requirements, Policies and Procedures of TSDFT.
Working with colleagues in a friendly and supportive team where everyone has the opportunity to be the best they can be ensures that our diverse experiences are valued and respected.
