**Deputy Principal (Academic Mentor)**

**Location**: Central Oxford, no parking

**Salary**: £30-36k (negotiable)

**Hours**: Monday-Friday (9am - 5.30pm), office based

We are delighted to be working exclusively with a fantastic college in central Oxford who, due to recent investment and continued growth, are looking for a driven individual to join their collaborative team as a Deputy Principal. This is an excellent opportunity for an inspirational individual with a strong background in education to provide academic and pastoral support to the college’s students.

**What will the role involve?**

You will have full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Sixth Form students. This will involve academic intervention and pastoral welfare management to promote a culture of academic excellence and independent learning.

Working within a small, collaborative team, you will be responsible for:

- Ensuring that all students understand the academic expectations of the college and what they need to do to achieve and exceed their targets
- Effective communication with students, parents and key stakeholders to ensure the wellbeing of all students as well as developing their confidence and resilience
- Monitoring student attendance and punctuality
- Working with the Academic Office to plan and deliver the Leadership programme
- Summarising important information from previous school references into learner profiles and Tutor briefs
- Reviewing student timetables and line managing the time-tabler if required
- Inducting new students (year-round) and designing new induction procedures
- Weekly meetings with the Academic Office and College Principal to review student performance and wellbeing
- Contributing to Sixth Form reports
- Working with the SENCO to ensure that all students are supported in a way that allows them to succeed
- Act as lead safeguarding contact
- Leading disciplinary interventions if required
- Overseeing the continued expansion of the Careers Education Programme for A level students
- Acting as a role model for all staff and encouraging a learning culture that is innovative and responsive to students needs
- Participating in College Open Days, assessment days and parents’ consultations
- Interviewing prospective students

It is essential that you have a minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience and a detailed understanding of the UK education system. You will be passionate about student welfare and academic achievements and have a strong desire to deliver exemplary client service. You will thrive in a changing environment and demonstrate flexibility to new ways of working and thinking. As an effective communicator you will have the ability to build trusted relationships with student and parents alike. The safety and wellbeing of the students is at the heart of everything you do and as a result it is imperative that fairness and honesty takes priority over commercial considerations.
