Fees (22/23): £13.65 per hour, maximum £400 per month

Additional Hours: Yes, with prior agreement.

**Summary**

Acting as the “Green Champion” for the Charity, the Creative Courtyards Supervisor will manage the design, development, maintenance, and usage of the outdoor spaces (“Courtyards”) at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The role includes the supervision of volunteers, and in partnership with the Director and the Exhibitions and Collections Manager, the development of the Volunteers Programme, including working with vulnerable people.

**A “Green Champion” for Arts for Health MK**
- Being a “Green Champion” for AfHMK - with knowledge, expertise, and skills to support environmental responsibility and being a single point of contact for issues relating to good practice in this area.

**Creative Courtyards at MKUH**:

- Lead on the creative design and planning of the “Courtyards”.
- Lead on the planting, ensuring a variety of plants are selected that are suitable for the spaces and that also bring a variety colour and texture to the spaces.
- In partnership with the Exhibitions and Collections Manager, the management and maintenance of artwork that is situated in the “Courtyards”.
- Lead on the maintenance of the “Courtyards”: this will include but not limited to, managing technicians, contractors, general repairs, and maintenance; managing storage and storeroom.
- Ensuring the Courtyard spaces are designed to facilitate maximum accessibility - for staff, patients, and visitors (of all ages).
- Be a point of contact for enquiries and concerns regarding the Courtyards and any artwork that is situated in the Courtyards.
- Writing, and delivering interpretation materials/signage.
- Maintenance of the shed and any tools/equipment.

**Supervision of Volunteers**
- Day-to-day supervision of volunteers contributing to the programme, including in-person and remote supervision as appropriate, being a “listening ear”, and safeguarding.

The applicant should be aware that our existing volunteers are presenting with mild/moderate learning and communication disabilities.

**Development of Volunteers Programme**
- Liaison with MKUH stakeholders including but not limited to Estates, Charity Board, clinical and non-clinical teams across the hospital and governors.
- Coordination of volunteers including recruitment of new volunteers, arranging schedules and supervision. This may involve developing partnership opportunities with other local services e.g. schools, colleges, voluntary and community-based services

**Evaluation and Fundraising**
- In partnership with the Director, contribute to the development of funding bids related to the Courtyards and other projects with an “environmental responsibility” element.
- Collect outcome data as required to illustrate the impact of projects.
- Contribute to final project report writing.

**Administration**
- Ensure all activities comply with DDA and Health & Safety requirements.

**Other**
- Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the Director or the Charity Board.
- Whilst the hours can be adjusted to suit the applicant’s current freelance portfolio, Tuesday is the day when most of the volunteers are on site.

**Skills and Experience**

**Essential**:

- Experience of working in outdoor spaces and gardens.
- Basic knowledge around “green” issues - including recycling, net zero, plastic pollution, clean energy, and climate change.
- Demonstrable creative skills - in any visual art or horticultural context.

**Desirable**:

- Experience of working with people with disabilities or mental/physical health concerns, which could be both adults and/or children (professional qualifications not required).
- Experience of working with grant funders including the Big Lottery and the Arts Council of England.
- Knowledge and experience of working in hospitals and other clinical environments, including in community-based settings.
