**Job Purpose**
The role of the SENDCo is to oversee SEND provision within the school. This includes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of SEND policy and provision. The SENDCo provides professional guidance to colleagues and will work closely with staff, parents and other agencies. This will include supporting children who have social and emotional difficulties, issues with communication, interaction and sensory or physical needs.
The SENDCo will be part of the School’s Senior Leadership Team.
We have a team of SENDCo’s who work within the school, with individual site locational responsibilities and whole school responsibilities.
This role will be based between two of our sites based at Tiverton and Crediton.
**Main duties**
To support the development of the School’s SEND provision.
Ensure appropriate provision for all learners in accordance with their EHCP and maintain an oversight of this provision in the school.
As part of the School SLT, you will be involved in ensuring appropriate deployment of SEND staff and resources to meet priorities and ensure maximum efficiency.
You will be involved in the ongoing development and review of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) in conjunction with School SLT.
Ensure appropriate delivery for all learners is maintained through the 1:1’s on your allocated site.
Work with the SENDCo Team to ensure effective ways of bridging barriers to learning are developed through:
- Assessment of SEND.
- Monitoring of teaching quality and learner achievement.
- Target setting - APDRs, or Provision Maps, IBSP.
- Accurate records are maintained.
- High and realistic expectations for all learners are maintained, set by the Leadership team in accordance with the school ethos.
- Support the Head of Teaching & Learning and Head of Pastoral in monitoring and assessing learners’ progress.
- Interpret relevant school data to inform provision & practice.
- Liaise with partner organisations and external agencies as required to meet learners’ needs as identified in the EHC plan.
- Develop, design and participate in the school’s ongoing programme of CPD sessions and staff learning.
- Participate in required supervision sessions due to the demands of SEND responsibility and delivery.
- Manage referrals and determine the learner placement schedule.
- Act as Designated Teacher for your allocated learners from your sites within the school.
- Act as a Lead in an area of Senior School Leadership.
- Level 3 Safeguarding training.
- Safer Recruitment Training.
- Access arrangements training and assessments.
- Engage with the whole company community.
- Work within the TOS Charter.
- Complete the OAK Leadership induction programme.
- Liaise and collaborate with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on matters of safeguarding and welfare for learners with SEND.
- Hold DDSL responsibilities.
- Remain alert to the fact that learners with SEND may be more vulnerable to safeguarding challenges.
- Ensure that learners experience a supportive and positive staff team at all times.
- Ensure that you play alongside learners for at least two hours a week to experience a supportive and positive place of learning for all.
**Statutory responsibilities**
- Responsible for ensuring that all EHCP Plans are reviewed in accordance with statutory requirements, with allocated learners.
- Support the Tribunal Process in relation to learner provision.
- Implementing the School SEND Policy.
- The SENDCo will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, follow school policies and the Staff Behaviour Policy (Code of Conduct).
**Staff Management Responsibilities**
- Work with the Headteacher and Governors to ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
- Oversight of the professional guidance and support for staff to ensure they understand the needs of the learners and how to best meet their needs through the tutor team.
- Take SLT responsibilities for allocated sites within the school.
- As part of the School SLT, you will be expected to be involved in regular quality assurance and evaluation of the SEND provision within the school.
- Support the recruitment of appropriate SEND staff for the learners.
- Line Management of 1:1 Learning Support Assistants
- working with learners with SEND.
- Lead staff appraisals and produce appraisal reports.
- Identify training needs for staff and how to meet these needs.
- Lead INSET for staff.
- Review staff performance on an ongoing basis.
