Job overview

We are looking for a new colleague to join our high performing, friendly and dedicated medical team. As a full or part time Specialist in Acute Medicine, you will help us offer the very best care for our patients at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in a newly designed role. You will sit on the consultant tier after a period of induction and shadowing tailored to your needs.

NUH has one of the busiest acute medical takes in the country, taking an average of 110 patients per day. Approximately 60% of patients are referred from the Emergency Department (ED) and 40% from Primary Care.

We are also having many new unit improvements with our right sizing modelling and Tomorrow’s NUH which includes a new Multi-speciality Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC which Acute Medicine will manage.

The Consultant team is well supported by around 45 middle and junior grade doctors plus a growing team of Advanced Care Practitioners, Physician Associates and prescribing pharmacists. The team is multi-skilled, committed and supportive of each other - with patient care forming the central focus

For this post, you will need 12 years minimum post graduate experience, at least four of which in Acute / General Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Clinical
- Responsible Consultant for the management of patients admitted to Acute Medicine.
- Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
- Engage in the operational processes to optimise flow and navigation across Urgent and Emergency Care
- Provide senior clinical support to the MDT

The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.

Governance and Audit
- Take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Each specialty has a Consultant Clinical Governance lead.

Teaching
- Take an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and education.
