The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is to appoint a Consultant Physician in HIV Medicine based at the Hampstead site. The job plan will be 7.5 DCC/2.5 SPA. This is a full-time (10 PA) consultant role. Applicants looking to job share or desiring LTFT working (minimum 8 PA) are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be providing specialist outpatient HIV care in the Ian Charleson Day Centre (ICDC) and up to 12 weeks of in-patient HIV consultant cover, based on Ward 11 South, including evening, overnight and weekend on-call (1:8). In addition, the post holder will enhance the service by taking a lead in managing the trainees and educational dimensions of the service. They will be expected to contribute to service development generally. The post holder will perform clinics in HIV and also undertake in-patient duties and ward rounds.
- The appointee will undertake inpatient HIV duties including ward rounds and undertake outpatient clinics, and facilitate MDT meetings.
- The appointee will be expected to support and supervise doctors in training.
- There will be responsibilities for carrying out teaching and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
- The appointee will be supported in Continuous Professional Development and will undergo annual appraisal and engage with all requirements for revalidation.
- To contribute to clinical supervision and service development activities in the department including national and local audits

The HIV service provided by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is recognised as an international Centre of Excellence for HIV care. It serves the inpatient and outpatient needs of over 3000 people living with HIV and has the largest cohort of women living with HIV in the country. We have an inpatient HIV unit and run specialist consultant-led clinics within the department including in viral hepatitis, TB, cardiology, renal disease, rheumatology, ageing and frailty, lipid disorders, AIN, gynaecology and psychiatry. For stable patients on medication annual review and e-clinics are in place, which are both Doctor and Nurse led. Care in all areas of medicine is increasingly being provided at a network level and the department is active in developing and strengthening links with our clinical colleagues across the North Central London Network. The HIV department has a dedicated research team and many patients are involved in Clinical Trials including those for new antivirals, primary HIV infection, clinical and social science based studies.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1 CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To undertake inpatient HIV duties including leading MDT ward rounds and undertake clinics in HIV
- To provide HIV inpatient and on call service
- To support and supervise doctors in training.
- To have responsibilities for carrying out teaching and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
- To undertake Continuous Professional Development and annual appraisal

2 RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
- Provide high quality care to patients.
- The post holder must adhere to the standards outlined by the GMC for Good Medical Practice.
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
- Demonstrate, model and encourage Trust Values at all times to all patients and staff.
- Provide on-call consultant review that meets the requirements of 7 day working
- Support the Hospital at Night teams.
- Participate in audit and quality improvement (at least one per year).
- The post-holder is required to undertake continuing professional development (CPD) as per RCP guidelines.

3 RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
- The post holder is required to participate in the annual appraisal system in line with the GMCs and Trust’s appraisal and revalidation guidelines. Individual appraisal interviews will be held annually and reports, (including updated job plans). You are expected to inform yourself of the annual timetable for appraisal and ensure that appropriate time is set aside to update your portfolio and your mandatory requirements.
- To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance.

4 RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING
- Work with colleagues to ensure Junior doctors’ hours are compliant in line with EWTD and New Deal.
- Adhere to Trust / department guidelines on leave, including requesting and reporting absence, and professional and study leave, and to ensure that members of staff for whom you are responsible do the same.
- Participate in the recruitment and induction of junior medical staff as delegated by the Clinical Director/Clinical Lead.
