**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the clinical leads, on behalf of the Clinical Director, within one month after the commencement date of the appointee. If applicable, the job plan will be reviewed annually, following the appraisal meeting. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the appointee’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It should cover all aspects of an appointee’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. In addition, it should include personal objectives and details of the support required by the appointee to fulfil the job plan and objectives. The HIV Department conducts departmental job planning exercises as is common across the Trust.

The following provides a suggested schedule of the type of clinical and research activity and related activity components of the job plan. Based on 10 PA contract, there will be 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) sessions for this post.

- Full GMC Registration
- Entry to the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European Community rights or reasonably expect to do so within 6 months of interview.
- Good Clinical Practice certification
- MRCP or equivalent
- Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.

**Desirable criteria**:

- Diploma in medical education (or equivalent)
- An MD or PhD

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Evidence of broad based training and recent experience including inpatient and outpatient HIV care
- Competent knowledge and skills to manage acute medical conditions

**Desirable criteria**:

- Participation in policy or guideline development, audit or quality improvement, teaching or research at a regional or national level
- Evidence of recent or ongoing research
- Experience as a clinical or educational supervisor
- Experience in supervising juniors doing research

**Skills and aptitudes**:

- Solid understanding of clinical governance
- Evidence of effective audit and quality improvement
- Experience of implementing evidenced based changes in practice

- Specialist Interest (and therefore a sub-speciality clinic)
