Crisis Support Volunteer

Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference. Coronavirus has created a perfect storm of acute need for the families, young people and children we help - and a sudden loss of income for Barnardo’s. We are working flat out to ensure that we continue to provide essential support to children and families. We are still providing one-to-one support to the most vulnerable children with complex needs and we are redesigning many services, so our staff can provide effective support either online through new digital solutions, by phone or through care packages delivered to family homes. In order to do this, we need the help of a team of dedicated and essential volunteers who are happy to help out with a variety of tasks to ensure that we are able to support our service users at this difficult time.

Our volunteers help make this happen.- Tasks: Collecting resources from local community, venues to create care packages for vulnerable families.
- Creating activity packs for children to enjoy at home.
- Delivering care packages and activity packs to vulnerable families at home.
- Helping to keep social media platforms up to date with information and support.
- Administration duties relating to the organisation or resources and promotion of adapted service provision.
- Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.
- Participating fully in training and supervision.
- Volunteering within Barnardo's Basis and Values.- Skills: Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Approachable and welcoming.
- The ability to communicate and engage with children, young people and families.
- Being non-judgmental and positive in their attitude to working with individuals from different backgrounds.
- Having some knowledge and understanding of supporting parents and carers, and the issues faced by disadvantaged families.- Benefits: Full induction and training.
