Bath & North East Somerset Council are looking to recruit an experienced, visionary and audience focussed Senior Curator for the Victoria Art Gallery. This is one of the most exciting civic creative roles in the country. It is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the gallery. You will: take ownership of the temporary exhibition and events programme, shape our learning offer and community engagement, build exciting and ground-breaking external partnerships and manage and develop the world-class collection.

**This role will offer you**:

- The ability to grow and diversify the audience and support of the gallery, regionally and nationally.
- An opportunity to care for, conserve and manage a collection of over 14,000 oils, watercolours, drawings, prints and decorative items.
- The backing and experience of, Heritage Services (an independent business use within the council), and our portfolio of award-winning heritage sites.

**You will be responsible for**:

- Leading a tight-knit curatorial/public engagement team and be part of the wider Engagement and Curatorial team in Heritage Services.
- The management and care of the collection, acquisition and disposal policies, and management of art on loan to and from the gallery.
- Creating and delivering a temporary exhibition programme.
- Working with colleagues to help deliver a digital engagement strategy, fundraising plan, and community engagement plan.
- Maximising commercial opportunities at the gallery, including art sales, product development and corporate hire.

**You will bring the following**:

- Extensive experience of delivering art exhibitions including building relationships with living artists and managing loans from private individuals and institutions.
- 3 years’ experience in a relevant curatorial role.
- Track record of securing funding for projects, delivering financial returns, and advising senior managers and governing bodies as to the strategic direction of an institution.
- A good working knowledge of conservation and collections management issues relating to art collections.
- Experience of working with a diverse range of audiences and delivering programming and experiences to them.
- Skill in devising and delivering activities to learning and family audiences.
- A demonstrable knowledge of current issues and trends in the arts sector.

Your main place of work will be Victory Art Gallery, Bath, South West England
