Rotational Occupational Therapist - Band 6

We are looking for Occupational therapists with excellent communication skills to join our expanding Occupational Therapy team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

**Essential experience required**:

- Post-graduate clinical experience working as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist
- Evidence of participation in In-service training and Personal CPD
- HCPC registration and RCOT/BAOT membership

The posts are for qualified Occupational Therapist with experience at Band 5 or Band 6 level.

You will be based at University Hospital Lewisham or in one of our community sites (if based in the community teams on rotation - pay scales not impacted by location).

Working days and or shift patterns will be agreed by the line manager to meet the needs of the service covering working patterns across weekends and 8-8pm in some specialties.

We have a comprehensive Band 6 development program in place to support our Band 6 therapists. Please see training schedule attached.
- Rotations into 8 different speciality areas: - Emergency Department,
- Frailty,
- Stroke,
- Care of the Elderly,
- Acute Medicine,
- Neuro Trauma (including ITU) ,
- Community Therapy Teams (x 2)
- We are exceptionally lucky in the trust and have opportunity to explore additional band 6 roles within the trust - should this be identified in Appraisal/Career development discussions (including community teams as we are fully integrated)
- You will manage a designated case load with complex needs using evidence based client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate

- You will provide leadership for junior/support staff, through supervision and appraisal as delegated by a senior member of staff

Job Summary

**Participate in rotational scheme**: Elderly, General Medicine, Stroke Unit, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Complex Neurological conditions (including major trauma) and Community Rehabilitation

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Clinical

1.1 To assess and treat a specific caseload of patients

1.2 To demonstrate a broad level of knowledge and understanding of clinical conditions.

1.3 To undertake individual initial screens to identify patient need including areas affecting functional ability, followed by agreed assessment plans.

1.4 To design / plan individual patient treatment programmes to implement oneself, or to delegate as appropriate

1.5 To assess and provide treatment for the functional level of patients with regard to High quality care for every patient, every day personal and domestic activities of daily living, to maximise independence.

1.6 To select and conduct standardised cognitive and perceptual testing with further assessment when needed.

1.7 To carry out an initial risk assessment where necessary and to monitor ongoing risk

1.8 To assess need and risk factors for hoist and wheelchair provision

1.9 To advise, recommend, make provision for the installation of appropriate aids and adaptations to the patient’s social and physical environment.

1.10 To carry out home visits, with or without the patient, to assess environmental risks and functional ability at home.

1.11 To carry out community visits to assess for and practise daily living skills as needed.
