Housing First Support Worker
6 days ago
Housing First is an innovative approach, proven to successfully support people with repeat histories of homelessness and who experience multiple disadvantages, into independent and stable accommodation.
About the role
“No two days are the same, but a typical day at Housing First will involve visits to two or three people across Cornwall. They might want help to complete their weekly food shop and cook a meal, they might want to get a coffee by the sea or walk the south west coast path, you might spend a few hours helping them in the garden, they might need help to sort through their post and pay their utilities. Nowhere in the list of duties does it include go karting, kayaking, fishing or cake decorating but it happens much more often than you’d think at Housing First; we try to be as creative as possible and our visits are relaxed and informal. We hold small caseloads of only 5 people and everyone is seen at least twice a week, this means we get the privilege of knowing people really well and the working relationships we establish are imperative to success. You will become part of a diverse and passionate team through attendance at weekly team meetings and have the opportunity to buddy up with your colleagues and support each other regularly.”
Based around a set of core principles, which are designed to achieve optimum outcomes, Housing First is about doing things differently; it requires flexibility and creativity from all agencies involved.
Core Principals;
1. People have a right to a home
2. Flexible support is provided for as long as is needed
3. Housing and support are separated
4. Individuals have choice and control
5. An active engagement approach is used
6. People are supported to identify their strengths, goals and aspirations
7. A harm reduction approach is used
