Position Overview

Under the direction of the PTS Manger or allocated contract Control Room, the post holder will be responsible for driving and assisting on a non-emergency patient transport ambulance, transporting sick or convalescent persons.

The job purpose is to provide and maintain a caring environment for non-emergency patients and provide a transport service as appropriate for the needs of the patient.

The role operates from various nationwide depots and a willingness to stay away from home is desirable. This usually means one week away, one week local, but other working models may be required on occasion.

Main duties and Responsibilities
- To provide a professional and caring service for all patients whilst in the care of the PTS vehicle- To ensure that at all times patient safety remains paramount and that safe systems of work are adhered to regarding stretchers, carry chairs, wheelchairs, clamps, seat belts etc.- At all times follow Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) and abide by training for the collection, transport and handover of patients- To complete all paperwork in respect of patient transfer accurately and legibly and return it to base at the end of a shift- To ensure that appropriate reaching, lifting and handling techniques are applied as per training when moving patients under non-emergency conditions, using appropriate equipment where necessary.- Report defects and deficiencies of the vehicle and equipment.- Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed- In the event of an incident you may be required to administer first aid- Report facts concerning accidents or incidents to control and PTS Manager- To ensure that the uniform is worn i- To maintain the vehicle and equipment- Preparing the vehicle, undertaking all checks prior to commencing a shift. Ensuring the vehicle is kept tidy at all times- Adhere to the Highway Code and speed limit at all times and that driving is safe and the patient is comfortable- To provide a courteous and flexible service- To ensure the ambulance mobile phone equipment is in good working order**Working for our organisation**:

**Desirable criteria**:

- Ability to walk pushing a patient in bed, on a trolley, stretcher or in a wheelchair along variations in levels.
- Able to carry or push items of varying weights along
- Able to driver appropriate vehicle for the service requirements
- Ability to walk for long periods and push chairs and stretchers
- Be self-confident, diplomatic and patient.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexibly and to use own initiative and show a positive attitude to change.
- To comply with all reasonable instructions given by authorised hospital staff and maintain good communications between all users of the service.
- Good attendance / time keeping record. Maintain a high standard of dress and personal hygiene and carry out duties with due regard to the health and safety of yourself and others
- Maintain a professional image be courteousness Maintain confidentiality at all times. at all times
- Experience of dealing with members of the public. Good patient/customer service skills. Previous experience of working in a hospital environment Previous experience working a 24 hour rota
