Orthoptic Assistant for Vision Screening

To be a vision screener within the Orthoptic Team providing vision screening to 4-5 year olds in schools throughout the 84 Primary Schools in the Stockport area, following the standard clinical and administrative procedures.

To undertake assistant duties in orthoptic clinics when required to do so.

To provide a high quality vision screening service for 4-5 year old children in primary schools across the Stockport area.

To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality patient care.

To work autonomously in the primary schools in Stockport. This involves working within set standing operating procedures, guidelines and policy without supervision.

To ensure accurate and timely referral if the vision screening ‘pass’ criteria, as set out by national guidance, is not met. May be first point of contact for patients and is totally responsible for ensuring eye care is accessed when indicated by vision screening result.

To co-ordinate with school staff in the delivery of the service ensuring that the testing environment is appropriate.

To check all consent forms to ensure the correct child and only those with consent are tested.

To input into hospital computer systems to ensure patient information and clinical outcomes are recorded accurately.

To work effectively as part of a team.

To recognise non-compliance during screening tests and take appropriate action recognising that this may be due to different factors (learning disability, autistic spectrum disorder).

To undertake clerical and administrative duties involved in the running of the hospital orthoptic departments at Stepping Hill Hospital and Stockport primary schools.

- If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
