Starfyn Education are working with an independent provider of specialist education based in East London, supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated withautism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders.

Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significantperiods out of education.

**The Role**

To look at pupils holistically and carry out specific direct educational work within the school and/or community which will support our pupils in achieving their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) targets and/or any social care plans.
To create leadership opportunities for our pupils that encourage and support self development, responsibility and resilience.

**Main duties and responsibilities**
- Support the class teacher in ensuring the best possible outcomes for pupils; including the delivery of classroom lessons and related educational activities as specified in the pupils EHCP and any other relevant documentation.
- Collaboratively plan, deliver and monitor creative and innovative lessons and projects in accordance with the aims of the relevant documentation, and to work towards good practice outcomes; drawing on a range of resources both from within the school andutilising appropriate community facilities and activities e.g., internet access, libraries, museums, and historical sites.
- Liaise with the Teacher in developing a comprehensive risk assessment and management program, providing appropriate supervision for all your assigned pupils.
- Responsible for home/school liaison over matters of attendance, therapeutic support, behaviour support and academic progress.
- Act as the appropriate adult during working hours and until the pupil is handed over to another adult; in accordance with the pupil's Service Proposal, collect, meet and/or return the pupil to the designated location / person.
- Alongside the Teacher, initiate a system of rewards which act as strategies to encourage achievement and the development of self-esteem.
- To look at our pupils holistically and drawing on a wide range of social care, therapeutic and teaching strategies to meet pupil needs.
- To adhere to both Local Authority and the schools Child Protection Procedures and ensure at all times that the welfare of the pupil is paramount.
- Complete contracts of work and behavioural contracts with pupils, with involvement from their families.

**Education and Qualifications**
- Numeracy and Literacy qualifications at level two or above (or equivalent qualifications).
- Relevant qualifications and certified training courses relating to Education / Social Work /Youth Work (D).
- Relevant Teaching Assistant/Learning Support qualification or willingness to work towards a qualification if not already held (D).
- Knowledge and experience
- Minimum of one years' experience of working directly with high risk and complex pupils in a recognised setting such as social work, youth work or education.
- Experience in taking a lead in behaviour management in class and around the school.
- Substantial experience of working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Knowledge of the National Curriculum structure.
- Knowledge and experience of the importance of cultural identity to young people.
- Ability to undertake all work practice in an anti
- oppressive and anti-discriminatory way.
- Skills and ability
- Discretion and confidentiality of service users and to work in line with the guidance and procedures of Data Protection legislation.
- Ability to develop specific areas of expertise to support pupils in a small group setting.
- Modelling of positive personal and professional conduct.
