**Job Description - Learning Assistant**
**Hours: 30 hours a week, 25 hours class-based and 5 lunchtime cover**
**Job Purpose**:
- To take a pro-active role in the support of the education, social and physical needs of pupils.
- To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering individualised programmes of study for pupils who require extra support.
- To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
- To meet the needs of a pupil with specific special educational needs, within a mainstream setting.
- To cover lunchtime duties, engaging the children and promoting constructive play.
- To maintain confidentiality in respect of pupil records and personal data in line with the Data
Protection Act.
**Tasks**
**Support for Pupils: -**
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
- Implement IEPs.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.
- Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
- Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
- Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of independent working.
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
**Support for Teachers**
- Organise and manage appropriate learning environment, display and resources.
- Work within a established behaviour policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self control and independence.
- Supporting the role of parents in pupils’ learning.
- Administer and assess/mark tests.
**Support for the curriculum**
- Deliver learning activities to pupils in line with the schools vision, aims and values.
- Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.
- Select and prepare resources necessary to lead learning activities.
**Support for the school**
- Comply with the schools key policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person.
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
- Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of pupils.
- Recognise own strengths and areas of specialist expertise and look for opportunities to share these.
**Responsibilities**:
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all.
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.

**General duties**
- To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive aims and ethos and to encourage staff and pupils to follow this example.

Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
