Freedom to Speak Up Guardian Band 7 - 37.5 hours full time.

The post holder will operate independently, impartially and objectively on all matters relating to concerns raised in the workplace, taking a highly visible role in promoting the processes through which these concerns can be raised (including trust and confidence in the processes themselves). They will play a key role in promoting a culture of transparency and service user /patient safety.

The Freedom to Speak Up Guardian will provide expert knowledge in relation to the Freedom to Speak Up agenda and collaboratively with the Trust Board create the strategic direction, ensuring it meets the needs of the workforce. Please refer to JD for further details.
- To act as the point of contact for all colleagues within the Trust who require support, guidance or advice when they wish to discuss or formally raise a concern regarding patient/service user safety, malpractice, concerns or general wrongdoing
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion of staff, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to speak up and all concerns are treated in a fair and transparent manner
- To be a point of contact for individuals who raise formal concerns to ensure that the individual has adequate support.
- Be highly visible to all colleagues including front line staff and managers, providing advice in developing a safe, open and transparent culture
- To signpost individuals to support mechanisms available across the organisation, such as unions, safety representatives, safeguarding, Occupational Health and professional bodies or any other internal/external support as required
- Safeguard the interests of individuals speaking up, maintaining confidentiality as requested
- To encourage local resolution where appropriate and achievable
- To design, coordinate and facilitate confidential listening exercises to provide support to teams experiencing cultural difficulties
- To facilitate, encourage and lead complex and difficult discussions with individuals who may require support when speaking up.
