Unique School Solutions are proud to be partnering with a special school in Barnsley which caters for students aged 6-18 years old with SEMH needs with the recruiting of a Pastoral Support Worker.

Those from a social work, children’s residential or secondary pastoral background are strongly recommended to apply.

This role is to start as soon as possible and will be Monday - Friday 8.30-3.30 term time only. This role will involve travel across different sites within the Barnsley area.

The role will be to develop and deliver preventative and early intervention strategies to improve pupil behaviour, welfare, and attendance. This includes working with and making appropriate referrals to specialist services and agencies. At times of crisis, Pastoral Support Workers are proactive in supporting pupils to regulate their behaviour through the effective use of Team Teach and other strategies.
- Have experience working with young people with SEMH needs.
- Be aware of and have a good understanding of SEMH needs.
- Be confident dealing with children in crisis.
- Participate in the comprehensive and ongoing assessment of all pupils to identify those who need extra support to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside school.
- Use specialist SEN and behaviour strategies, including Team Teach, to support self-regulation and de-escalation in accordance with school policies to effectively support pupils at times of crisis.
- Be patient and calm in the face of very challenging behaviour.
- Be passionate about improving the outcomes of pupils with SEND.
- Maintain regular contact with parents and carers of pupils in designated areas to keep them informed of their child’s needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement.
- Carry out home visits to support parents in encouraging their children to attend well and be on time every day.
- Be responsible for maintaining and updating records, information, and data in line with school policies, contributing to reviews and producing analysis and reports as required.
- Ensure the speedy and appropriate transfer of information relating to welfare concerns so that pupils are appropriately supported.
